Mrs. Rowe's & Mrs. Doughtie's classes had a wonderful time at Tyler's Caldwell Zoo yesterday. We even received the opportunity to have a classroom experience where we continued learning about animal adaptations. Ask your child about the Madagascar hissing cockroach! Mr. Doughtie and Eve (pictured) also joined us. I'm thankful to SSISD for allowing us to go. It is a neat experience to see students learn these standards in class, which includes the vocabulary, and then see them make a real life connection! Thank you to the parents and family members that attended. It was a day to remember.
Ms. Watson's 4th grade class invited us to their Texas Hall of Fame. They have been researching famous Texans and their class hosted a wax museum. Each student was dressed as thier Texan and they each delivered an informative speech. The students also had great props. They did an amazing job and you could tell worked very hard! What a lucky class to have such a great inspiring teacher! These are the school moments that we don't ever forget! Last Friday we enjoyed a wonderful day at The Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park. I hope your child came home eager to share with you something they learned. Next Wednesday, May 28th, we will be going to the Caldwell Tyler Zoo. Admission is FREE but students will need a sack lunch. Mrs. Rowe and I are looking forward to another wonderful field trip.
Last week I entered to win a prize from TCEA, Texas Computer Education Association. If you can't tell I am passionate about instructional technology and I love TCEA! I am so excited to say that I won a prize! Students presented their hard work this week. Students were partnered and shared all about the food chain they researched. Check out the post about the project. I am VERY proud.
Last Friday students participated in Career Day! Our wonderful counselor, Ms. Lobin, put it all together. Presenters came to our school. Students picked 5 to visit. They could visit an editor form the News Telegram, a correctional officer, a few bankers, a wildlife biologist, the Dance Studio, Wyatt's Towing, a police officer, a RN, a horse trainer, a coach, a speech pathologist, a cinematographer, and an Air National Guard. Ask your child about their day.
FIELD TRIP INFORMATION - THIS FRIDAY we are going to The Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park. Students will need to bring $2 by Wednesday, if possible, and a sack lunch. The cafeteria can provide a lunch but I will need to know by Wednesday. Please email me if you have any questions. Monday we learned about Cinco de Mayo & celebrated by making piñatas (pictured below). I filled them with candy and hopefully the students didn't break anything at your house when breaking them open. GBL - Game Based Learning
GBL learning is all the rage! I am dipping my toes in it and researching. I can tell you the students LOVE playing games! Who doesn't? My students love the App - Operation Math and it makes them excited about multiplying. MORE TO COME on GBL! |
